Secondary Departments

Quinns Baptist College (Secondary) has 6 main learning areas:

 

English/ LOTE

English is a compulsory subject for all years. Students will study both French and Indonesian in Year 7. In Year 8, Students must select either French or Indonesian as the language choice.  From Year 9 to 12, Students may select either language as an elective or major course of study.  Year 11 and 12 Studies in Languages and English follow the SCSA Course Guidelines.

 

Maths & Business Studies

Maths is a compulsory subject for Years 7 to 11. Courses in Year 11 and 12 follow the SCSA Course Guidelines. Business Studies are offered in Years 10 to 12. Students can choose from Business Studies or Accounting in Year 10, Business Management & Enterprise in Year 11 and 12 and Accounting in Year 12. Upper school courses follow the SCSA Course Guidelines.

 

Science and ICT

Science is compulsory for all Years 7 to 10.  Upper School students may select courses in Years 11 and 12.  Courses offered in Upper School are: Chemistry, Physics, Human Biology, Biology.  Information Communication Technology (ICT) is compulsory for all Year 7 and 8 Students. In years 9 and 10, ICT is offered as an elective. In Years 11 and 12, Applied Information Technology (AIT) is offered. All courses offered follow the SCSA Course Guidelines.

 

Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS)

HASS is a compulsory subject for Year 7 to 10 where students follow the Australian Curriculum guidelines.  In Years 11 and 12, Upper School courses offered are: Psychology, Modern History, Economics, Tourism, Career and Enterprise, and Geography. All Courses follow the SCSA Course Guidelines.

 

Physical Education/Foods

Physical Education is compulsory for all students in all years.  Students may also choose the following subjects in Years 9 and 10: Physical Recreation, Outdoor Education, Accredited Rugby (Year 9 only), Phys Ed Studies (Year 10). Health Education is compulsory for Students in Years 7 and 8. It may be chosen as an elective in Year 9 and 10. In Years 11 and 12, students may choose Phys Ed Studies which follows the SCSA Course Guidelines. Foods is compulsory in Years 7 and 8. It is an option for students to choose in Years 9 and 10. In Years 11 and 12, Food Production is offered and follows the SCSA Course Guidelines.

 

Arts

Music and Media, Woodwork, Art and Drama are compulsory for Year 7 and 8 students. Students in Year 9 and 10 may elect to choose: Music, Music Production, Drama, Dance, Woodwork, Technical Graphics and Art. In Year 11 and 12 students may choose the VET Music Production Course (Cert II), Dance, Drama, Music, Materials Design or Art according to the SCSA Course Guidelines.

 

Christian Education
Christian Education is a compulsory subject for all students.  Each Year Group is coordinated by a Lead Teacher.  There is no specific department that Christian Education is attached to as all staff are available to teach Christian Education.
